While this was a week off for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, at least a few of the Cup regulars were still off doing what they love best…… driving fast around ovals.
Carl Edwards used the “weekend off” to go race(and win) the Nationwide Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway. It has become Carl’s “victory march” to go up and join the fans after doing his backflip. The march he did through the Nashville stands was amazing, he spent several minutes perusing the grandstands. My hat’s off to him, I think this is fantastic for the fans.
Also racing this weekend, was Kasey Kahne in a winged sprint car at Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania. While Kasey didn’t win, he provided quite the highlight reel, as he flipped the car right out of the track and down a 30 foot embankment. Fortunately Kasey was just fine, as a matter of fact he sprinted back up the bank to wave to the fans…. Once again showing how to be a showman and be fan friendly.
Maybe the highlight of the weekend was Mr. Kyle Busch. He traveled all the way to Oxford, Maine for the historic, and very prestigious Oxford 250 late model race; as well as the Pass North 150 super late model race.
The thing that totally impresses me about this, is the fact that Kyle brings his own equipment to run these races. He has a very successful super late model operation already, but the Oxford 250 part of the weekend is a slightly different type of late model. He had a northeast car builder build him a car just for this race, so still his own equipment.
How did he do you ask? Well in typical KB fashion he swept the weekend! Love him or hate him, he is very likely the most talented race car driver of my generation.
Until next week, keep the shiny side up!!
