David Ragan earned his second career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole in Saturday's qualifying session for Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Ragan, one of the last of the 48 drivers to make a qualifying attempt, bumped Jimmie Johnson from the top spot with a lap at 182.994 mph.
Kasey Kahne then posted a lap at 182.927 mph to take the outside front row starting spot, dropping Johnson to third.
"I just tried not to overdrive it," said Ragan. "It worked out good."
Kurt Busch lines up fourth on Sunday's grid followed by Brad Keselowski, A.J. Allmendinger, Juan Pablo Montoya, Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards.
David Stremme, Travis Kvapil, Erik Darnell, J J Yeley and Scott Wimmer did not make the 43-car starting field.
The Brickyard 400 will be live on ESPN Sunday at noon eastern.
