The Victory Lap of Pocono II

jeff-gordonPenske Racing had a good weekend at Pocono Raceway. Brad Keselowski earned his second win of the season and teammate Kurt Busch finished third virtually assuring both Penske drivers a spot the 2011 Chase.

 

VICTORY LANE
Penske Racing – a win and a third place finish as both cars are now in the Chase.
Joe Gibbs Racing - three cars, 136 laps lead, only one top-10
Brad Keselowski – second win of the season, first one with a broken foot

 

THE GARAGE
Non–Roush Ford’s - the best so far this season is A.J. Allmendinger who is 17th in points with four top-10’s on the season.

 

Power Rankings
(Rankings will be based off of who is running the best, with an emphasis on the last several races but having respect for the duration of the 36 race schedule. Last Week’s Rankings can be found in parenthesis.)
1. (2) Jeff Gordon – 188 points the last five races
2. (3) Kurt Busch – climbs to fourth in the points
3. (1) Matt Kenseth – drops a position in the points, not a bad race, everyone else was better
4. (5) Kyle Busch – only the Busch brothers have lead more than 500 laps this season
5. (6) Jimmie Johnson – has not been close to victory in a while
6. (8) Ryan Newman – second hottest driver over the past five races with 182 points scored
7. (4) Kevin Harvick –  Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Jimmie Johnson all record top-fives
8. (9) Tony Stewart – currently sits ninth in the points with a 24-point cushion over 11th
9. (7) Carl Edwards – 14 drivers have now outscored Edwards over the last five races
10. (10) Denny Hamlin– would be the last driver in the Chase with the second wild card spot
11. (NR) Brad Keselowski – virtually locks up a Chase spot with his second win of the season
12. (NR) Paul Menard – needs another victory, outscore Denny Hamlin by 32 over the next five races, or have Hamlin get into the top-10 while Stewart or Earnhardt Jr. falls out of the top-10
