A Sunday without NASCAR

Well, mother nature was the big winner Sunday, as rain postponed the race at Watkins Glen leaving me with way too much time on my hands for the afternoon! I was really looking forward to seeing if Kurt Busch could sweep the weekend’s events. It would have made three NASCAR road course wins in a row for him after winning the Nationwide race on Saturday, good stuff…..

With all this time on my hands it allowed me to get a lot of stuff done around the house…..darn rain! Thanks to my neighbor, Saturday night I got to visit East Lincoln Speedway for their weekly show. Rain once again tried to wreak havoc on the nights festivities, as I sat in the parking lot for 2 ½ hours waiting out a rain storm.

Kudos to the staff at East Lincoln for riding out the storm and to the few drivers that helped roll in the track, even if it was 9 p.m. when hot laps finally got underway on a VERY slick track. A mixed bag of late models were to be the highlight of the night at the small tight oval, but to me the highlight was getting to watch 73 year old Will Cagle wheel a US Legends modified! He may be 73, but the man can still drive it in deep. Was worth seeing even though I got home at 2:30 a.m.

I love rivalries in racing, so it was great to see Mr. Vanilla, Jimmy Johnson getting hot under the collar and showing some emotion to Kurt Busch, will be interesting to see how this unfolds. I loved the days of Richard Petty versus Bobby Allison and any other rivalry from days gone by. I can only hope that more of that emotion comes through from the sport’s top levels.

Once again, IndyCar seems to have created controversy again by trying to restart Sunday’s race at New Hampshire International while the track was still wet. With average lap speeds of upwards of 180 miles per hour, what could they possibly have been thinking? The only constant in that series seems to be some very interesting race control calling.

Well that’s all from me this week, hope everyone had a great weekend of racing somewhere….

Until next time, keep the shiny side up!!!
