Jeff Gordon outdueled his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson to win Tuesday's rain-delayed AdvoCare 500 Sprint Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
It is the 85th career victory for the four-time champion and places him third on NASCAR's all-time winners list behind Richard Petty and David Pearson.
"It's a team effort and to win 85 is unbelievable," said Gordon. "Man, this is cool."
Johnson finished second after spending the last dozen laps at Gordon's rear bumper.
"I wish I could have won but I have a lot of satisfaction in racing my friend and teammate Jeff Gordon that hard for a win," said Johnson, who heads to Richmond with point lead. "He got it done today."
Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards completed the top-five.
