Everything that Sprint Cup teams have worked for since February will be on the line Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway as we find out who will make the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup. Nationwide Series drivers join in the action for a NASCAR double-header weekend.
The top eight drivers are all locked into the Chase but the Wild Card is where it’s at. Drivers like Paul Menard, David Ragan and Marcos Ambrose are hoping Brad Keselowski will push Dale Earnhardt Jr. or Tony Stewart outside of the top 10 so they can take advantage of their wins from earlier in the season and claim one of the final Chase spots. Jimmie Johnson sits atop the sprint Cup point standings with Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. continuing to lead the Nationwide Series championship battle.
On track activities begin Friday morning with the first of two Nationwide practices at 9:00 a.m. followed by the second at 10:30 a.m. Sprint Cup Series drivers take to the .750-mile track next for their two practice sessions, at 12:10 p.m. and 2:45 p.m., respectively. Nationwide qualifying takes place at 4:05 p.m. with Sprint Cup time trials starting at 5:35 p.m. All can be seen live on SPEED. Friday’s action wraps up with the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 Nationwide race live on ESPN beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the NASCAR Countdown. Driver introductions begin at 7:00 p.m.
Saturday night’s Wonderful Pistachios 400 will be broadcast live on ABC from Richmond International Raceway with coverage beginning at 7:00 p.m. All times are eastern.
