Friday's Sprint Cup qualifying session at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was full of drama with rain interrupting the action as five drivers, including Ryan Newman and Kasey Kahne, waited patiently for a decision from NASCAR.
"I don't think I've seen that much drama go into the last five cars in qualifying in my ten or eleven years of experience," said Newman.
When qualifying resumed it was Kahne who bumped his Red Bull teammate Brian Vickers from the provisional pole. Newman was the next and final car to take a time trial run and was able to secure the top starting position for his No. 39 Stewart-Haas team.
With rain posing little threat for round two of the Chase today's Sylvania 300 should provide a good bit of drama on its own.
