Well, another week has come and gone. To be honest, with relocating Saturday and trying to start unpacking and organizing the new house; I didn’t see much in the way of racing this weekend. I did sit and have lunch to watch some of the Talladega circus, ummm race on Sunday.
I fell asleep while watching it. As I have noted here before, I am NOT a fan of any restrictor plate racing; held at Daytona and Talladega two times a year. I can only equate these races as a trip to the circus. You are only there for the show.
Whether it is in a pack of 43 cars, or 21 tandems of 2 cars (someone always gets left out); running around at a cool 200 mph, I think it just stinks. Maybe it will all change once the tracks get weathered in some, but as long as they have to have the plates to keep speeds down; I seriously doubt it.
I have heard all kinds of things on the NASCAR channel on satellite radio about fixes for the problem, but none hold any real merit. These cars are simply too fast to be left unrestricted with the presence of fans. I used to love racing at Daytona, now I loathe it.
I would like to congratulate the Richard Childress Racing team, with the departing Clint Bowyer; for winning their 100th NASCAR race. A great achievement for sure. Many more in the future for this group. In that same vein, I was thrilled to hear that Mike Wallace had won the truck race, his first in many, many years. He used to be a real force in the old #52 truck!
Well, the Chase for the Sprint Cup has been stretched out a bit, with only five or six drivers realistically left in the hunt. Let’s hope that maybe Martinsville will draw up those remaining competitors and have an amazing three run stretch fight for the title……
Sadly, we did lose a few more racers this week. Marcos Simoncelli, a MotoGP racer from Italy was killed in an on track accident; while Rick Huseman an off road racer and his brother Jeff died in a plane crash last weekend. Condolences to both families.
Well that’s all for this week, until next time; keep the shiny side up….
