Paul Menard was fastest in Sprint Cup Happy Hour practice for Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. Menard, who won the 2011 Brickyard 400, posted a lap at 141.121 mph on the newly configured track.
Chase leader Carl Edwards occupied second on the leader board with a lap at 140.724 mph.
Regan Smith, Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch completed the top five.
Sprint Cup qualifying is set to begin Saturday at 1:40 p.m. ET.
