NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers praised Phoenix International Raceway officials after Friday's practice at the repaved and reconfigured one-mile oval in the Arizona desert.
The PIR staff completed the huge task of resurfacing and reworking the track since their last Cup race in February. While drivers are comfortable with the new surface, feelings are mixed about how some of the changes may affect Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500.
"The new track is going to present a whole new scenario with the way the race turns out so it's going to be interesting, a lot of unknowns," said Kevin Harvick.
Denny Hamlin says the new track will lend to a good race on Sunday. "We're going to have a pretty good race, better than what people are expecting," offered Hamlin.
This week's video preview features comments from Jeff Gordon, Harvick, Hamlin and Ryan Newman.
