Martin Truex, Jr. starts on the pole in the 2012 Bud Shootout after drawing the top spot in the annual Bud Shootout Draw Party held Friday night at Daytona International Speedway and televised live on SPEED.

"It's just cool," Truex said. "I haven't been in this race in a few years. I absolutely hated being down here (those years) and watching this race, so it's cool just to be in it and to get the pole is icing on the cake."

Kyle Busch drew the second position with Brad Kesleowski third, Jamie McMurrray fourth, David Ragan fifth and defending winner Kurt Busch scheduled to start sixth in Saturday night's race.

The cars of Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, Tony Stewart and A. J. Allmendinger were damaged in a crash near the end of the first practice session earlier Friday evening.

Matt Kenseth posted the fastest lap in the first session and Jamie McMurray led the rain-shortened second session.

The Bud Shootout will be live on FOX Saturday night at 8 p.m.
