Rain Shortens Final Day of Charlotte Test

The 16 drivers participating in Tuesday and Wednesday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup test at Charlotte Motor Speedway say the 2013 car is great to drive and has all the signs of increasing Sprint Cup Series competition next season.

Kasey Kahne led the pack in Wednesday’s rain-shortened session with a fast lap at 193.771 mph in the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. The lap was faster than the track record set last October by Greg Biffle.

“The car drives good, so it's pretty easy to go fast right now, Kahne said. “It's like your qualifying each lap. “

Even though Denny Hamlin crashed in the first hour of the session he continued to praise NASCAR’s 2013 “Gen 6” model that is scheduled to debut in the season-opening Daytona 500.

“With all the things they have to make these cars handle good, especially in the pack, it’s making the speeds really go up,” Hamlin said.  The Virginia native bruised his knee in the accident.

Sprint Cup teams return to Charlotte Motor Speedway for more testing January 17-18, 2013.
