Hot off a third place finish in last Sunday’s Daytona 500 Mark Martin captured his first pole of 2013 during Friday’s qualifying rounds for Sunday’s Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway.

The 54-year-old Arkansas native clocked in at 138.074 mph on his best of two trips around the one-mile oval in the desert.  Kasey Kahne starts on the outside of the front row after turning a lap at 137.862 mph.

Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon completed the top-five.

Starting sixth through 10th are Stewart, Kevin Harvick, defending race winner Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman.

Last week’s pole sitter Danica Patrick had problems in practice that carried over into qualifying. She starts 40th on Sunday.

Sprint Cup drivers have two scheduled practice sessions on Saturday with Sunday’s race scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. ET green flag. Watch practice on SPEED and the race on FOX. - 1.33 KbMORE NASCAR NEWS
