Michael Who?
Saturday, 15 December 2007 19:00

This year’s Race of Champions Nations Cup, held each year to determine the fastest country in the world, will feature NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson. The defending two-time NASCAR champ will be paired with fellow American Travis Pastrana, a motocross and rally car star.

The two will be racing against teams from England, Scotland, Germany, Scandinavia, France, Finland and Norway. The competition is taking place at England’s world famous Wembley Stadium today December 16.

Johnson has told the media he is excited to be racing against some of the best drivers in the world, in particular Michael Schumacher. The seven-time Formula-1 champion is highly regarded throughout the world as one of the best open-wheel drivers around. ‘Schumi’ – as he’s known throughout much of Europe – was highly critical of Juan Pablo Montoya last year for making the move to NASCAR.

When asked about Schumacher’s comment’s on Montoya’s move, team owner Chip Ganassi smiled and asked, “Michael who?” With open-wheel stars such as Jacques Villeneuve, Dario Franchitti, Patrick Carpentier, and Sam Hornish Jr. also moving to NASCAR, perhaps this weekend’s race against the two-time defending NASCAR champ will change the mind of Europe’s biggest racing star.
