Don’t Count Hornaday Out

While Kyle Busch and Todd Bodine vie for the Camping World Truck Series spotlight, Ron Hornaday is quietly hunting a top-three spot in the standings. The 3-time Champ is the only other person in the series, other than Busch and Bodine, to have a top-10 finish in each of the three races so far this season.

Hornaday finished 5th at the season opener in Daytona. Unfortunately, following post-race tech, he was docked 25 Championship points for illegal shocks. The #33 team rallied back with a 6th place finish at Fontana followed by a 7th place run in Atlanta.

Next weekend the Camping World Truck Series will take to the track at Martinsville Speedway. Over the years, Hornaday has had some success there with multiple top-5 and top-10 finishes.

Last year, Hornaday spoke of his success before the October race at Martinsville saying,  “Overall, I have had some success at Martinsville and we have been pretty good there recently so hopefully we can take care of business this time around and put that No. 33 Camping World Silverado in victory lane.”

Unfortunately, the #33 team gambled on fuel and lost during last October’s race. Hornaday finished a disappointing 29th and lost the series points lead to Johnny Benson who went on to win the Truck Series championship by a mere seven points.

Hornaday endured a streak of bad luck late last year which seems to have disappeared during the off-season. If his current momentum continues through Martinsville there is a chance the #33 team could leave the track 3rd in points. hardcore-race-fans
