In the on-going search for sponsor, Todd Bodine and his Germain Racing team have never lost focus of the ultimate goal – winning races. Running well week-in and week-out, this team has shown the world their talent and determination despite the search for funding.
All of that hard work has paid off this week as Whelen Engineering Company has agreed to come on board for this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Martinsville Speedway. The deal came together thanks in large part to the personal relationship between the Bodine family and the Whelen family.
“We really appreciate Whelen Engineering and Sonny Whelen helping us out of a jam,” the driver second in the series standing explained. “We weren’t going to Martinsville without a sponsor. What Whelen has done for us is greatly appreciated.”
For Saturday’s 250-lap event, Whelen will appear on the hood and quarter panels of the No. 30 Germain Racing Toyota, but the tailgate and the top of the trucks bed are still available.
“We would love to think we can bring in a company that needs the competitive action of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the growing audience of SPEED Channel as part of their marketing package,” crew chief Mike Hillman Jr. pointed out. “The reality is that beyond Martinsville, we have 21 action-packed races that we need to sell. If we sell them one race weekend at a time, that’s fine with us, but, we are at a point where we must sell all of them. What Whelen has done for us is terrific. Martinsville is a track where we’ve come so close to winning and we would really hate to miss the chance to go for it again. We hope we can give Whelen a great race and great results to thank them for their support.”
So far this year, Bodine and the Germain Racing team have had no problem producing results. In three races thus far in 2009, the 2006 series champion has one win, a second and a third, and is only twenty-five points behind leader Kyle Busch in the standings. This weekend the team looks to improve on those numbers and draw the attention of additional corporate sponsors.
