In the fall of 2007, Colin Braun made his Camping World Truck Series debut at Martinsville Speedway. Unfortunately, an accident on lap 144 took him out of contention and he ended up a disappointing 34th. Last season, Braun got more seat time at the “Pretty Paperclip” and qualified in the top-10 for both events.
“Well for us I think speed has never really been an issue at Martinsville. We’ve always had really fast truck and trucks that drive really well there,” said Braun. “It just seems like staying out of trouble and staying out of the mess of somebody getting you involved in an accident, or yourself getting involved in an accident. It’s so easy there for somebody to make a little mistake and end somebody’s day and get them turned around.”
If he can avoid the wrecks on the half-mile oval, Braun has the chance to make Camping World Truck Series history at the same track where he got his start. Roush Fenway Racing is one win away from win number 50 in the Series.
Nearly nine months ago, Erik Darnell took the checkers at Michigan International Speedway for Roush Fenway’s 49th victory. The organization has been hunting the big 5-0 ever since.
At Martinsville, Roush Fenway Racing has a pretty good record. Out of 44 starts, the team has racked up two wins, 13 top-five finishes and 23 top-ten finishes. Plus, the team has finished an astounding 98.3 percent of the laps possible.
With such a great organizational record and with Braun’s seat time, as long as the #6 truck can stay out of trouble there is a definite chance that Roush Fenway’s big 5-0 could come this weekend.
Braun knows what he has to do.
“It seems like you can get into a wreck pretty easy there so we just gotta stay out of trouble and be smart.”
