KHI Takes 1–2 After Violation Costs Busch His Winning Streak

kevin-harvickKyle Busch has won a race every weekend so far this season. Busch began his winning streak with a win in his Gatorade Duel race in Daytona, followed by victories in both the Truck and Nationwide Series in Fontana. Then, he took the checkers in the Cup Series in Vegas, Trucks in Atlanta and just last weekend he won the Cup race at Bristol.

After leading over a hundred laps, Busch was bested by Kevin Harvick with nine laps to go and sustained some damage to the left rear of his Miccosukee truck. While under caution, Busch attempted to fix the damage on his rear quarter-panel by rubbing it on the inside wall. Unfortunately, he did not return to the racing surface quickly enough and crossed the pit road commitment line resulting in a violation from NASCAR.

Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) took a 1–2 finish as Harvick took the checkers followed by his driver Ron Hornaday.

“Man that was fun,” Harvick said in Victory Lane. “We were pushing and shoving a little bit. Me and Kyle (Busch) raced pretty hard there at the end and I didn’t know if any of us were going to make it on gas. But, a good day for KHI (Kevin Harvick Inc.) and (Ron) Hornaday in his Longhorn truck and Ricky (Carmichael) got his first laps here.”

Hornaday started his day off a little rough after making contact with outside pole sitter Shane Sieg immediately after the green flag dropped. There was some worry that the damage to the front of his #33 could cause it to overheat but it never presented a problem.

Hornaday got fresh tires during a caution with just over a hundred laps remaining. The race commentators said they did not believe he had enough time to get back to the front of the field. But, he proved them wrong and was in third place with around 50 laps remaining and after finishing second he was able to congratulate his boss in Victory Lane.

Kyle Busch, on the other hand, did not stick around for the post-race festivities. He climbed out of his truck, ran down pit road, crossed the track and quickly left Martinsville and his winning streak behind.
