Tuesday, KHI owners Kevin Harvick and DeLana Harvick visited injured soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center alongside Kevin Harvick Inc. driver Ron Hornaday Jr.
VFW National Commander Glen Gardener joined the Harvicks and Hornaday on their tour of the hospital. The group was greeted by Major General Carla Hawley-Bowland, Walter Reed’s Commander General, when they arrived at the facility.
“This is an opportunity very few people get to experience,” said Kevin Harvick. “I am very proud of our affiliation with the VFW and all of the programs they offer to our veterans and their families. I was able to personally say thank you to some of our country’s finest men and women who have given so much for all of us. Hornaday journeyed to Iraq a few years ago to visit the troops and now, being sponsored by the VFW gives him more opportunities to interact with military personnel. “This visit was a real honor,” Hornaday said. “I got the opportunity to shake hands with true heroes. I am so thankful for each and every person in this hospital, not only the patients but the doctors and nurses who are taking care of them. A visit like this really makes you proud to be an American." While at Walter Reed, the United States Army presented the Harvicks and Hornaday with Freedom Team Salute commendations, which are part of a program that formally recognizes individuals what actively support Army soldiers. Over 10,000 active servicemen and women have received treatment at Walter Reed since 9/11.
