Key Motorsports announced Monday that a lack of sponsorship has forced them to refocus their efforts on their Nationwide team by canceling their full-time Camping World Truck Series entry. Driver Mike Bliss will, however, be on hand at Key to drive a limited schedule for the remainder of the 2009 season. “It was a difficult decision to no longer pursue a full-time schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, especially considering how well we’ve performed so far this year,” says owner Curtis Key. “However, the economy continues to affect our sport.”
Key’s #40 Chevy truck is currently sitting 18th in points with a top-finish of 8th this season. Bliss will not be piloting the truck this weekend in Kansas but is slated to appear at Lowe’s Motor Speedway next month for the North Carolina Education Lottery 200. Sponsorship obligations with Westerman Companies and Oakland Metal Buildings will require Key to run in at least seven other races by the end of the season.
By focusing primarily on the Nationwide team, Key Motorsports is hoping to improve on their current points position of 27th. Scott Wimmer, Key’s driver in the Nationwide Series has yet to acquire a top-ten finish this season; his average finish so far is 22nd. “It is my goal to focus on the Nationwide Series program we are building,” Key said. “I see great potential in our Nationwide program, which I believe is the future of Key Motorsports.” MORE NASCAR TRUCK NEWS
