Brian Scott held off Dennis Setzer during the final laps of the AAA Insurance 200 to get his first Camping World Truck Series victory. During a race plagued with tire issues, wrecks and debris cautions, Scott managed to overcome it all to take the checkers.
“God it feels great man. It’s been a long time coming,” Scott said in Victory Lane. “I can’t take any credit, it’s all these guys, everybody standing behind me…We played the game perfectly and I commend him. At times I didn’t think it was the right call, or we were going to be in position, but it all worked out and now we’re in Victory Lane baby.”
Kyle Busch had been leading with less than twenty laps to go when he cut a tire and slowed before hitting the wall and heading to pit road. Immediately after Busch gave up the lead to Colin Braun, Braun suffered the same problem and hit the wall bringing out a caution. Scott inherited the lead when the majority of the field decided to pit during the yellow flag and he opted to stay on the track. “I wanted to make sure we were in the lead when everyone ducked onto pit road,” Scott’s crew chief Jeff Hensley said of the call to stay out. Setzer also decided not to pit, but was unable to really challenge Scott for the lead once the race went back to green. Setzer crossed the line in second place, a season best finish for his un-sponsored truck. David Starr, Jason White and Johnny Sauter rounded out the top-five.
