Ron Hornaday turned 51 today and was able to celebrate in Victory Lane after winning the rain-delayed Copart 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in Milwaukee. This is the second time he has gone to victory lane for his birthday; on this day in 1998 he took the checkers at Bristol. The No. 33 Copart Chevrolet had a lot of problems earlier in the weekend and the Kevin Harvick Inc. team had to work very hard to get it in good shape for the race.
“We were terrible yesterday,” Hornaday said. “We made some extreme changes… and it paid off.” Hornaday clearly dominated the event, leading 180 of the 200 laps. He admitted that he has learned how to get around the Milwaukee Mile by watching last year’s champion throughout the years.
“(I) Followed Johnny Benson around here a lot of laps and learned a lot (from him),” Hornaday said in Victory Lane. This is Hornaday’s second win this season, the first coming at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in May. Today’s win, Hornaday’s 41st career victory, has also moved him into the lead in the point standings over Matt Crafton. Dennis Setzer crossed the stripe second and Brian Scott, despite a broken right wrist, finished third. Todd Bodine and James Buescher finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Stacy Compton, Tayler Malsam, last week’s winner Colin Braun, David Starr and Terry Cook rounded out the top-10. MORE NASCAR NEWS
