Hornaday Earns 22nd Career Pole

ron-hornadayRon Hornaday is now third on the career poles list for the Camping World Truck Series. After topping the charts with a 117.662 mph qualifying run, Hornaday earned his third pole this season and the 22nd of his career.

During the first practice session yesterday for tonight’s race at Memphis Motorsports Park, the Kevin Harvick Inc. Longhorn Chevy truck was not up to Hornaday’s usual performance standards; his best lap time was 23.540 seconds which was only good enough for 13th on the charts.

The No. 33 team got to work and made changes that put him on top during the final practice session and then earned him the special guitar trophy for the pole winner from qualifying.

Hornaday admitted after he took the pole that the competition is getting more intense at every race.

“It’s getting tougher every time we come out here,” Hornaday said. “I dunno if we got it (to win the race) but we’ll see.”

Terry Cook, Mike Skinner, Aric Almirola and Colin Braun rounded out the top-five, while Stacy Compton, Dennis Setzer, Brian Scott, Timothy Peters and Brian Ickler rounded out the top-ten.

Two trucks failed to qualify for tonight’s MemphisTravel.com 200, the No. 34 of Paul Bamburak and the No. 02 of Andy Ponstein.

Race coverage will begin at 5:30 pm ET tonight on Speed.
