Two In A Row (Two Ways) For Hornaday
Written by Lindsey Marks

ron-hornadayRon Hornaday has won two in a row.

He won last year’s race at Memphis Motorsports Park and has taken the checkers in the MemphisTravel.com 200 today, earning him a second Elvis trophy.

Hornaday also got a win last Saturday at the Milwaukee Mile on his birthday making this win his second victory in a week.

After struggling in the first practice session, Hornaday’s #33 Longhorn Chevrolet dominated the rest of the weekend’s events; he topped the charts in final practice, won the pole and the special guitar pole winner’s trophy and then led the most laps in the race and got the victory for Kevin Harvick Inc.

The Elvis trophy at Memphis is one of the most sought-after trophies and this will be the last year that it will be given away. Ron Hornaday was clearly excited about the hardware in Victory Lane.

“The last one, the last Elvis Pressley,” Hornaday said. “Thought I got the last one last year. This is awesome.”

Hornaday set the pace throughout the event with a lead of up to two seconds. Dennis Setzer and Tayler Malsam brought out a caution with only five laps to go forcing a green-white-checkered finish, destroying his lead.

brian-scottAlways the master of restarts, Hornaday managed to hold off Brian Scott for the victory but Scott made it known that second place was a great accomplishment especially considering his broken right wrist.

In the end, David Starr, Aric Almirola and Matt Crafton finished third, fourth and fifth respectively, behind Hornaday and Scott.

Mike Skinner, Timothy Peters, Johnny Sauter, Colin Braun and Todd Bodine rounded out the top-ten.

Setzer and Malsam managed to finish fifteenth and sixteenth despite their late race debacle.
