Second year driver Colin Braun found June to be a beneficial month in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Concluding May with two upsetting finishes at the end of May, Braun discovered himself in the 20th spot in the 2009 point standings. With a win and four top-10 finishes in the sixth month of the year, Braun overcame a 141 point deficit to crack the top-10 in the points. Assembling a third place finish at Texas to begin the month, he collected the finish needed to begin his June turnaround. Not only got Braun off on the right foot but moved him up two spots in the standings to 18th.
“Our 1.5-mile program is really strong and I feel really comfortable racing on those big tracks, but I have a lot to learn on the short tracks to improve our results there,” said Braun. “Luckily there are a lot more intermediate tracks on the schedule than short tracks. If we could add a few road courses in the truck series that would really be cool for me.”
Finding his way into Victory Lane for the first time at Michigan, Braun moved up six positions in the point standings. The young Roush Fenway Driver followed his win up with an eighth place finish at Milwaukee and a ninth place effort at Memphis. After getting the taste of triumph on his tongue, Braun notes that his appetite has grown but he needs to focus more on amassing solid finishes in order to contend for the championship. “You start to get greedy and you start becoming less happy with top 10’s once you win a race, but what we need to do is keep getting top 10’s the rest of the season to put ourselves back up in this points deal,” Braun noted. “At the same time we know we have trucks capable of winning races. We just need to figure out how to get them set-up the best way and I need to drive them well enough to win these races.” MORE NASCAR NEWS
