Hornaday Gets Three in a Row
Written by Lindsey Marks

ron-hornadayOnce again Ron Hornaday found his way to Victory Lane giving him three wins in a row this season. He won at the Milwaukee Mile and in Memphis late last month but the No. 33 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) team certainly did not lose any momentum over the two week break for the Camping World Truck Series.

After qualifying on the pole earlier today, Hornaday struggled a bit throughout the event with handling and tire issues. Fortunately, his crew chief Rick Ren made “hellacious adjustments”, as Hornaday put it, and the Longhorn Chevy got back to the front and held off Mike Skinner during a five lap sprint to the checkers following a late-race caution.

“It’s the first time for three in a row for me,” Ren said, obviously proud of the winning streak.

An added bonus to the victory is there has never been a repeat winner at Kentucky in the Camping World Truck Series, until now, and Hornaday made it known prior to the event that he wanted to be the first.

Also, NASCAR confiscated the rear-end on the No. 33 prior to the race which may lead to penalties later this week.

“Yeah we got in trouble for the rear end,” Hornaday said in Victory Lane. “ (It) wasn’t our fault. It was a quarter inch off…It took all day and all day yesterday to get this truck right… these guys never say die.”

mike-skinnerSkinner finished on Hornaday’s rear bumper and Matt Crafton, Timothy Peters and Aric Almirola finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Brian Scott started on the outside pole and led early in the event before blowing a tire. He rallied back to finish sixth with Hornaday’s teammate Ricky Carmichael finishing seventh. James Buescher, David Starr and Dennis Setzer rounded out the top-ten.

The Copart Challenge of Champions between Hornaday and Todd Bodine continued tonight with Bodine getting points for this evening’s race. Unfortunately for him, he only managed a 16th place finish which will allow Hornaday to reduce the 104-point lead that Bodine had on him coming into this event.

The Camping World Truck Series will head to O’Reilly Raceway Park for their next event, the AAA Insurance 200 presented by JD Byrider, on Friday, July 24th at 7:30 pm ET on Speed.
