After earning himself the nickname G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all Time) during his Motocross career, Ricky Carmichael has turned to NASCAR to fulfill his need for speed. Driving the No. 4 Monster Energy Chevy Silverado for Kevin Harvick Inc., Carmichael has made nine starts in the Camping World Truck Series this season.
This weekend at Kentucky, Carmichael recorded his best career finish of 7th place. He matched his best career start of 3rd after qualifying with a time of 31.178 seconds, a mere three-hundredths of a second behind his teammate, pole sitter and eventual race winner Ron Hornaday. Carmichael ran in the top-10 early in the event but after performing a green flag pit stop around lap 100, he was caught a lap down when the yellow came out shortly thereafter. When the caution flew again on lap 122, Carmichael received the “Lucky Dog” award which put him back on the lead lap.
More cautions near the end of the event allowed Carmichael to gain on the leaders and get himself back inside the top-10 for his 7th place finish, giving him the top finishing rookie award.
“I am so pumped,” Carmichael said, following the race. “We had a really good truck. We got too tight at the beginning of the race, but we kept working on it. I am still learning, I was driving in the corners too deep at the start of the race, but as my truck got better so did I. It was helpful that I had been to this track before. I came into this weekend more confident and it showed. I just want to thank John [Monsam] and all the guys; they did a great job. I feel like I’m finally getting in a rhythm and I’m ready for next week." Carmichael will be behind the wheel of the No. 4 Silverado again this Friday at O’Reilly Raceway Park for the AAA Insurance 200 presented by JD Byrider and he will be looking to once again improve his career best finish.
