Hornaday Makes History

ron-hornadayNo one in Camping World Truck Series has ever won four races in a row.

Until now.

At the stripe with one lap to go it could have been anyone’s race, but Ron Hornaday got his No. 33 Chevy Silverado in front of Mike Skinner coming out of turn two and managed to hold on for this historic win.

“Four in a row, man that’s cool,” Hornaday said in Victory Lane. “Three’s been done… I wanted this fourth one so bad.”

The No. 33 team out of Kevin Harvick Inc. was penalized earlier this week for illegal mounting points on the axle housing; crew chief Rick Ren was fined $5000 and put on probation until December 31. The rough week made this special win even more so for Ren.

“I’m going to tell you why (we won tonight),” Ren said after watching his driver take the checkers. “My guys just don’t give up.”

Hornaday has won five races this season in four different trucks, proving the skill and consistency of the No. 33 team.

Skinner demonstrated his good manners and a level-headed veteran mentality during his battle with Hornaday. Post-race he explained his good behavior.

“I coulda hit him. I ain’t made like that.”

Aric Almirola and Dennis Setzer finished on Skinner’s bumper, followed by pole-sitter Colin Braun.

Rounding out the top-10 were James Buescher, Tayler Malsam, Stacy Compton, David Starr and Sprint Cup Series driver Kyle Busch.

19-year old Caitlin Shaw finished 24th and 16 laps down in her first Camping World Truck Series start. She spun and backed the No. 1 Toyota Tundra into the wall on lap 38.
