Sauter Earns Truck Series Pole At Phoenix
Written by Troy Blalock
Friday, 13 November 2009 17:26

johnny-sauterLucky No. 13 took the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole on Friday the 13th.

Johnny Sauter was the fastest in qualifying today at Phoenix International Raceway with a lap time of 27.477 seconds at 131.019mph in his Rodney Atkins/Curb Records/Fun Sand Chevy Silverado.

NASCAR Sprint Cup series driver and Truck Series team owner Kevin Harvick qualified 2nd for tonight’s Lucas Oil 150 with a fast lap of 27.548 seconds at 130.681mph. He was two one-thousandths of a second faster than his Kevin Harvick Inc. driver Ron Hornaday who qualified 3rd in his No. 33 VFW.org Silverado.

Cup driver Kyle Busch is hoping to sweep all three NASCAR races this weekend, along with Kevin Harvick, and qualified 4th for the truck race. A good start to his three-peat hopes after winning both Truck and Nationwide Series races last weekend but losing the Cup race to his brother after running out of fuel with only two laps to go.

Aric Almirola, Busch’s teammate in the Truck Series, rounded out the top-5 in his No. 15 Graceway Pharmaceuticals/AKawareness.com Toyota Tundra.

Mike Bliss, Chad McCumbee, Brian Scott, Stacy Compton and Todd Bodine completed the top-10.

There are four drivers making their first Camping World Truck Series starts tonight including Kasey Kahne’s USAC driver Brad Sweet and Tim George Jr. who finished 11th in points in the ARCA RE/MAX Series this year.

The Lucas Oil 150 is scheduled to broadcast on SPEED tonight at 7:30pm ET.
