As the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series NextEra Energy Resources 250 came to a close, there were only 12 trucks left in the main pack. Caution after caution after caution slowly picked off some of the best of the best in the series.
It was surprising that the newly revamped green-white-checkered rule was not put into use tonight. Timothy Peters took the lead heading into Turn 3 on the final lap after sending Todd Bodine up the track to brush the wall. The two shared another nudge as they came to the stripe side by side. Peters retained the lead and Bodine ended up spinning into the infield after finishing second.
“This thing drove like a Lexus tonight,” Peters said in only his second trip to Victory Lane. “We just won Daytona… I’m going to Disney World!” Dennis Setzer finished third followed by pole-sitter Jason White and Matt Crafton. Former F1 driver Nelson Piquet Jr. ended up 6th in his Truck Series debut, just in front of Stacy Compton, 2008 Truck Series champ Johnny Benson, Donnie Neuenberger and J.J. Yeley in the No. 01 truck of new team Daisy Ramirez Motorsports. The race was marred by accidents with the second biggest wreck happening just after the green flag flew when a group of trucks went three wide and Austin Dillon ended up in the wall. Eight other trucks were collected when the dust settled including Johnny Sauter, Kyle Busch, and rookie Landon Cassill. The largest of the on-track incidents involved Ricky Carmichael and Ron Hornaday and collected eight other trucks including both Billy Ballew Motorsports drivers Ted Musgrave and Aric Almirola as well as Donny Lia, Tayler Malsam and others. There were a handful of other incidences that involved Mike Skinner and Max Papis to name a few. The next stop for the Camping World Truck Series is the Atlanta 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 6th. The race is scheduled to broadcast on SPEED at 1:30pm ET. MORE NASCAR NEWS
