Twenty-year-old Austin Dillon, grandson of Richard Childress, won his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race Sunday afternoon at Iowa Speedway in a black No. 3 Chevrolet Siverado.
Dillon started the Lucas Oil 200 from the pole and led a total of 187 laps of the event. A caution with three laps remaining set the field up for a green-white-checkered finish, sending the race into overtime. Dillon completed 205 laps around the 0.875-mile oval and held off Johnny Sauter on the final restart to claim the win.
NASCAR Truck Series leaders Todd Bodine, Aric Almirola and Ron Hornaday, Jr. were involved in accidents. Daytona winner Timothy Peters lost an engine on a day that kept many of the Truck Series big names from making a challenge for the victory. Sauter finished second, followed by Matt Crafton, Ken Schrader and James Buescher. "Dale Earnhardt would be proud of him," said Childress. Dillon has 12 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts on his resume and becomes the second youngest winner in Truck Series history, behind Kyle Busch. MORE NASCAR NEWS
