Ricky Carmichael captured his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series pole in qualifying at Atlanta Motor Speedway for Friday night's Atlanta 200.
Carmichael recorded the fastest lap in the opening practice session and was the last of the 39 drivers to make a qualifying attempt. The former motorcycle champion laid down a lap of 177.812 mph around the 1.5-mile high-banked superspeedway.
Clint Bowyer starts second followed by James Buescher, Parker Kligerman and Ryan Newman.
Kyle Busch, Matt Crafton, Austin Dillon, Josh Richards and Timothy Peters line up sixth through 10th.
Norm Benning, Clay Greenfield and Wayne Edwards did not make the field.
Tonight's Truck Series race is set for an 8 p.m. start.
