It's easy to say Marcos Ambrose has had the weekend of his life. The Australian-native captured his first NASCAR victory during Saturday's Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen, after coming so close earlier in the year. Ambrose then climbed behind the wheel of the Wood Brothers No. 21 Ford for Sunday's Centurion Boats at the Glen.

Starting 41st after the field was set by owner points, Ambrose methodically picked his way through the field on his way to the front. Consistently one of the fastest cars of the event, the former V8 Supercar champion broke into the top-five following the second caution of the day and remained there for the remainder of the race.

Working past Martin Truex Jr. and benefiting from Ryan Newman's spin, Ambrose moved to third with less than twenty laps to go. Lining up for the final restart with five to go, Ambrose had a hard charging Juan Pablo Montoya in his rear view mirror and Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart right ahead of him. With Montoya working hard to hold of Kevin Harvick, Ambrose was able to concentrate on chasing down Stewart for second place.

Although he got to the back bumper of the No. 20 Home Depot Camry, the Cup Series rookie was forced to settle for a career best third-place finish. Ambrose explained following the race he had nothing left at the end after using up his equipment early in the going getting through the field.

"So many people have an interest in what I'm doing over here in America, a lot of Australian fans," Ambrose explained after his win on Saturday. "Every time I go home, or catch up on emails or whatever, they'll ask me why can't I win. So, at least now I can say, "I have won and just shut up." I need this win to really justify my move over here to the U.S. I've come from a winning deal down home; big fish in a pretty small pond, to be honest with you, and I've come across and taken on the best in the business here in NASCAR."

To follow up his winning run on Saturday with a third-place in Sunday's race at Watkins definitely makes for the weekend of a lifetime. With Ambrose jumping to the Cup Series full-time in 2009 for JTG Daugherty Racing it appears this Aussie is going to be more of a threat than many may have previously thought.
