After placing an 11th place finish in the Centurion Boats at The Glen, AJ Allmendinger has finally clutched a spot in the top-35.
Allmendinger’s fourth consecutive top-20 finish helped bolt him up two spots into the safe zone. Next weekend will be stress free.
Since debuting in Daytona last year the team has been in the go-or-go-home club, the No. 84 team can breathe again. “Jimmy (Elledge, crew chief) has done a great job just coming over here and all the additions that Jay (Frye, general manager) has added to the team. We have been running well, and we just needed some luck on our side and some good strategy. Jimmy has brought that along. Even at Pocono we wanted a better run than 19th, but we did a good job to get that out of it. All we have to do is keep continuing now that we’re in (the top 35) and no reason to fall out.” Although he feels disappointed about not finishing in the top-10, Allmendinger can not complain about not having to qualify on time next week at Michigan International Speedway. "When we get to Michigan I’ll be a lot happier when we don’t have to qualify on time - right now I’m just a little disappointed because I wanted that top-10 and I wanted to finish off strong, but 11th, I will take it.”
