Thus far in 2009 Scott Wimmer’s season in the NASCAR Nationwide Series has seen its ups and downs. Not letting the low points get to him, the driver of the No. 40 StopRepairBills.com Chevrolet is looking to be on an uphill swing after 13 weeks of action in the NASCAR second level series.
Despite failing to qualify for the events at Auto Club Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway in the Key Motorsports entry, issues on pit road and incidents on the track pulling him down, the Wausau, Wisconsin native has managed to hold his head above water and keep the wheels turning to contend with the front-runners.
Currently posted in the 32nd spot in the 2009 series point standings, Wimmer is only 9 points away from the 30th position which would automatically lock him into the field. In this past weekend’s run at Nashville, Wimmer was regelated to a 33rd place finish due to a wheel bearing problem. "It's unfortunate, we're getting good enough that our bad days are 15th, and if we have a good day it'll be somewhere in the top-10, so I'm excited about the progress we're making," said Wimmer. "We kinda took a little bit of a hit in the points, but I'm confident that we can go to Kentucky and run well and get ourselves back up into the top-30. " Heading to Kentucky Speedway Wimmer’s statistics at the track prove him to be one of the favorites to take the checkered. In five starts at Kentucky, Wimmer holds the all-time record for most top-5 finishes with four, the record for the least DNF’s of active drivers with zero and the all-time record for the highest average finishing position with 6.4. Last year at Kentucky Wimmer took runner-up honors following rookie Joey Logano across the line. Looking to collect his first win at the track that he has amassed such an impressive resume on, the 33 year old driver is confident that he can assemble another impressive run in this weekends Meijer 300 presented by Ritz. "I'm excited about this weekend. Kentucky's always been a real good track for me. A lot of fans come out to this race and it's good to see the support there. We'll probably be racing in front of 70,000 people on Saturday night, and that's real good for a standalone Nationwide event. Hopefully we'll be able to go out there, qualify well, do all the things right, and get our first top-10." MORE NASCAR NEWS
