J-D Motorsports Expands To Three Teams
Wednesday, 17 June 2009 07:21

kertus-davisWith all the negative talk about tough economic times and manufacturers cutting their support in NASCAR, J-D Motorsports has responded by showing their determination to grow. The Nationwide Series team announced on Wednesday they would expand to a three-car organization starting this weekend at Milwaukee.

Team owners Johnny and Lori Davis called this announcement “a new and exciting phase in the continued development and expansion of J-D Motorsports.”

The new three-car team will include Danny O’Quinn Jr. who will continue to pilot the No. 01 Sun Drop car, Kertus Davis – son of Johnny and Lori Davis – who will climb behind the wheel of the No. 04, and veteran Mike Wallace who will take over the No. 0 Chevrolet at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway and the Daytona International Speedway with more races yet to be announced.

Returning to his family’s organization after 18 months of working with other teams, Kertus Davis will also manage the No. 04 team in addition to his driving duties.

mike-wallace“I am happy to join a team that is growing,” Mike Wallace explained.  “JD Motorsports now has three full time teams in the Nationwide Series.  That is tough to do without the right people in place, especially with today’s economy.”

“This is a great opportunity for our zero car,” Johnny Davis added. “Mike has ran two other races for us in Daytona and Talladega and did a great job.”

After starting the year with only one car and a very limited budget, J-D Motorsports has been able to grow their organization thanks to hard work and good results. Danny O’Quinn Jr. has stepped it up this season, putting the No. 01 19th in driver points and 25th in the owner standings – providing the team with a guaranteed starting spot each week.

In addition, through O’Quinn’s performance, Johnny and Lori Davis were able to bring back one of the most recognizable sponsors in NASCAR. After years away from the sport, Sun Drop Beverages agreed to a deal with J-D Motorsports that put their colors back in NASCAR.

Team Director of Communications David Tom hopes the continued success and new expansion proves to other businesses that J-D Motorsports is a wise investment.

“There is not a team at any level in any American racing series that can provide the marketing BANG for BUCK that we can provide for a sponsor.  We have the name drivers, the streamlined structure, and the in-house marketing professionals that will please the most demanding corporate marketing programs,” Tom pointed out, “and we can do it for a fraction of what other teams need.”
