Kevin Harvick earned the pole for today's Zippo 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen International in a qualifying session that saw the track record broken twice. Marcos Ambrose held the track record for a short time until Harvick took to the track in his #33 KHI prepared Chevrolet and turned a lap of 121.998 mph. Ambrose will start second.
"I didn't expect it be that fast in qualifying trim," Harvick said. "I knew it would be fast, but I think our race trim is probably a little bit better than qualifying trim."
Harvick bettered the record set by Kurt Busch in 2007 and bested Ambroses time by .03 seconds. Ambrose won his first NASCAR race in the 2008 Zippo 200. Robby Gordon will start third in the Zippo 200, Scott Speed fourth and Denny Hamlin fifth. Jeffrey Earnhardt will start 36th in car #40 for his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut. The Zippo 200 is scheduled for a 3 p.m. ET start this afternoon. MORE NASCAR NEWS
