Since 2005, Sprint Cup Series drivers have dominated the Nationwide Series point standings. Martin Truex Jr. was the last Nationwide Series regular to win the points championship back in 2005 before he moved to the Cup Series full time in 2006.

This year is no different.

As NASCAR heads to the Irish Hills of Michigan for this weekend’s events, Kyle Busch leads the Nationwide Series points by 212 over Carl Edwards. Edwards is a Sprint Cup Series regular who won the ’07 Nationwide championship and finished 2nd in points behind Cup driver Clint Bowyer last year.

The only other Buschwhacker currently sitting in the top-10 in Nationwide points is Joey Logano. Amazingly, Logano only has 16 starts in the series this year but has still managed a high position in the points despite the rest of the top-15 drivers having at least 21 out of the 22 starts so far this season.

However, doing double-duty each weekend may affect the Buschwhackers’ Cup Series efforts as evident by Busch’s recent announcement regarding his limited Nationwide Series schedule in 2010.

"It's been good and maybe it's taken a little bit away from the Cup effort,” Busch said, according to NASCAR.com. “I don't think it has, but we're already talking about next year and cutting it back and getting our Cup efforts back up to where they need to be.”

While Busch is dominating the Nationwide Series, he has fallen out of Chase contention in the Sprint Cup Series.

Meanwhile, Brad Keselowski and Jason Leffler are the only Nationwide regulars within 600 points of Busch in the Series standings.

As they head to Michigan International Speedway, Keselowski and Leffler have a good chance of gaining on the leaders. MIS is Keselowski’s home track and he has never finished outside of the top-15; Leffler only has one finish outside of the top-15.

“Michigan is a super fast track with multiple grooves that allow you to run anywhere on the track you want or where your car handles the best,” Leffler said. “I love it because there’s a lot of side-by-side and three-wide racing which keeps it pretty exciting the entire race. This Great Clips team has run extremely well at these intermediate tracks this season and I look for more of the same on Saturday.”

Justin Allgaier is sitting 5th in Nationwide Series points, 1041 points behind Busch.

Steve Wallace, Mike Bliss, Jason Keller, Brendan Gaughn and Logano currently round out the top-10 in points.

The Nationwide Series CARFAX 250 is scheduled to air on Saturday, August 15th at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
