Nine of the top-10 drivers in the first NASCAR Nationwide Series practice session are NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regulars. Brian Vickers was the only driver with a lap time under 40 seconds. He had a fast lap of 39.999 seconds in the Dollar General Toyota; at a speed of 180.005 miles per hour.
Series points leader Kyle Busch was slightly slower than Vickers with a lap time of 40.139 seconds. Sprint Cup Series drivers Denny Hamlin, David Ragan and Paul Menard ended the session third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards, who is currently second in Nationwide Series points, wound up sixth, seventh and eighth. Trevor Bayne, driving the Aaron’s Dream Machine No. 99 Toyota, was the only non-Sprint Cup driver in the top-10. He finished ninth in the practice session with a lap time of 40.619. Former Nationwide Series champion and current Cup Series driver, Kevin Harvick, rounded out the top-10. Ryan Newman, who was fastest in Sprint Cup practice, as well as other Cup regulars Reed Sorenson and David Reutimann were also among the 51 drivers who participated in the Nationwide practice session. Final practice for the Nationwide Series Carfax 250 will take place at 5pm ET tonight on Speed.
