Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will pull double duty on Labor Day weekend at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, running both the Degree V12 300 NASCAR Nationwide race Saturday night, September 5th and the Pep Boys 500 Sprint Cup race Sunday night, September 6th.
Earnhardt, Jr. recently indicated hardcore race fans attending the first events under the lights at the Atlanta track are in for exciting racing action.
"It will be pretty hairy and pretty fast and you're going to see some people running incredible lap times late in the race on new tires," Dale, Jr. said August 13. NASCAR's most popular driver will run the Nationwide race, along with a host of other Sprint Cup Series drivers, to prepare for the Pep Boys 500. "I think you can [learn a lot about the first Sprint Cup night race at Atlanta Motor Speedway from the Nationwide race]," Dale, Jr. said. "You want to know at night does the lane change - does where you predominately want to run change from the day races. We'll see what everybody does and what everybody chooses to run late in the race, if they're toward the bottom groove. And you'll get a good idea how much more grip you'll see on Sunday night as the temperature drops." Fresh off a third place finish at Michigan, Earnhardt, Jr. says he is in favor of double file restarts and that they will add to the excitement at Atlanta. "I think they make the racing more exciting and at Atlanta it's just going to give opportunities for more passing and opportunities to move forward. It makes the races much more interesting and it's a plus in my mind." MORE NASCAR NEWS
