David Ragan surprised everyone, including himself, by taking the lead and winning the NASCAR Nationwide Series Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. "We're usually just mediocre here," Ragan said. Prior to the win, his career best finish at the .533-mile oval was 8th. Ragan’s teammate, Carl Edwards, finished 2nd and decreased Kyle Busch’s points lead by 91 points after Busch was wrecked early on in the event by rookie Chase Austin.
"That was unexpected,” Edwards said. “We made up some points, but that's not the way we want to do it." Busch had taken the lead from Edwards and as he came out of Turn 4, Austin, who was running at the top of the racetrack, suddenly veered in front of Busch taking out both drivers and Reed Sorenson. It was determined that Austin had a tire issue and was radioing to inform his crew at the same time his spotter was trying to tell him that the leaders were coming. Usually the fans in attendance would have boo-ed Austin for his rookie mistake; because of who he took out, the fans acted quite differently. "I heard a lot of fans were happy about it. That's how I knew it was Kyle," Austin said, about not knowing who he had hit. Amazingly enough, after taking a few moments to cool off in his hauler, a very calm Busch addressed the incident. "Real unfortunate that it happened," Busch said. "I've made mistakes too... It stinks." Another one of the multiple accidents during the race involved Brad Keselowski and Justin Allgaier. Keselowski took full responsibility for the incident afterwards. Interestingly enough, the rumor floating around the track yesterday is that Keselowski will leave his Nationwide ride with JR Motorsports to move up to the Sprint Cup Series full-time racing for Roger Penske, Allgaier’s team owner, making the two drivers teammates. Prior to the race, Keselowski was asked about the situation but he remained tight-lipped. Keselowski rallied back after the incident to take 3rd in the race, followed by Kevin Harvick and Matt Kenseth. Jason Leffler, Clint Bowyer, Michael Annett, Paul Menard and Michael McDowell rounded out the top-10. NASCAR NATIONWIDE POINTS FOOD CITY 250 RESULTS MORE NASCAR NEWS
