Kevin HarvickThe Nationwide Series heads to Richmond International Raceway this weekend for the second night race in a row. And, as with all night events, it is guaranteed to satisfy the fans in attendance.

Series veteran driver Jason Leffler is looking to break his career best number of top-10 finishes at Richmond this weekend. Leffler’s previous best is 17 top-10’s in one season and he matched that at Bristol a few weeks ago.

Leffler has previously had success at Richmond so it seems like the perfect place for him to beat his personal record.

“The configuration of Richmond is awesome because it’s got a short track feel to it but is fast enough that it also has speedway characteristics,” Leffler said of the track. “The cars are a little bit more aero-sensitive than at other tracks this size.  With two racing grooves there’s a lot of side-by-side beating and banging which is fun as a driver and exciting for the fans.  Because it is such a small track, you can see and hear the fans even when you are in the car.  It’s pretty cool to have that coliseum-type atmosphere.”

Leffler currently sits 4th in the series point standings. He is 385 points behind 3rd place driver Brad Keselowski, but he is 522 points ahead of 5th place Justin Allgaier.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are currently 1st and 2nd in the point standings, respectively. Busch has a comfortable 221 point lead over Harvick, but Harvick got into Victory Lane at Atlanta last weekend.

Richmond is one of Harvick’s favorite tracks and he has won four Nationwide races and one Sprint Cup Series race there so he could gain some ground on Busch this weekend.

“I have always liked Richmond from the first time I saw the place. It just suits my driving style,” Harvick said. “After our win last week in Atlanta under the lights and now racing again this week under the lights, I'm hoping we can keep the momentum going and have another great finish for the team and Jimmy John's. "

Also pulling double-duty this weekend, besides Busch and Harvick, are nearly ten other Sprint Cup Series drivers including Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards and Scott Speed.

There are only nine races to go in the NASCAR Nationwide Series season, that combined with a race under the lights and there is no telling what may happen when the green flag drops Friday night.

The Virginia 529 College Savings 250 is scheduled to broadcast on ESPN2 at 7pm ET on Friday, September 11th.
