Busch Versus Edwards Headed To Kansas
Thursday, 01 October 2009 23:00

carl-edwardsOver the past six races, NASCAR Nationwide Series points leaders Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards have been duking it out for the series championship.

Going into Michigan in August, Busch had a 212 point lead over Edwards, currently his lead sits at 211 points, but over the past six races the margin has increased and decreased back and forth depending on who had the on-track advantage.

Edwards lost a lot of ground after wrecking at Michigan, a whopping 127 points to be exact. But, he rebounded at Bristol after Busch crossed the line a disappointing 28th.

They were only 248 points apart headed to Canada for the road course event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Edwards ended the International excursion with a trip to Victory Lane, and decreased Busch’s points lead to 192 points.

In Atlanta, Busch got the upper hand by finishing five positions ahead of Edwards and increased his the lead to 221 points. But, Edwards challenged back at Richmond and took the checkers with Busch finishing 3rd. The margin between the two stood at 201 points heading to last weekend’s event in Dover.

Busch finished 4th at the Monster Mile with Edwards right on his bumper in 5th. Because Busch led the most laps in the event he received 10 bonus points and increased his lead to 211 points.

So, as the Series heads to the heart of America, these two drivers will continue to play cat and mouse. Busch has the clear advantage since the margin has only dropped below 200 points once since they ran at O’Reilly Raceway Park in July.

Plus, with Busch excluded from the Chase for the Sprint Cup and Edward securely in, he is just that much hungrier for wins and this championship.

The Nationwide Series has only seven more races this year, including Kansas, so this battle will only intensify as the season comes to an end.

The Kansas Lottery 300 is scheduled to broadcast on ESPN2 at 3pm ET on Saturday.
