Logano Wins Copart 300, Dad Loses Hardcard
Sunday, 11 October 2009 10:25

joey-loganoJoey Logano won an exciting Copart 300 Saturday at the Auto Club Speedway, his second consecutive NASCAR Nationwide Series victory and fifth of the season. The 19 year old Joe Gibbs Racing driver held off Brian Vickers and Carl Edwards for the win and referred to the event as "the most fun race I've ever had in my life."

"That was the coolest race of my life," Logano said after climbing from the #20 GameStop Toyota. "I didn't think we had a shot at it. We never quit, kept digging all day. That was just amazing."

Logano started from the pole and was leading when he became involved in an incident with Greg Biffle on lap 50 of the 152 lap race. Biffle forced Logano into the backstretch wall while passing Logano for the lead, damaging Logano's car and sending him back to 25th.

"I didn't think we had a shot at it after Biffle decided to put us in the wall," Logano said.

The race had plenty of controversy with the winners father, Tom Logano, reportedly confronted Greg Biffle as the Roush Fenway Racing driver sat in his car on pit road.

"Oh, yeah, I saw him flip me off," Biffle was later quoted as saying in a radio interview. "They've got short memories, you know? They don't remember last week [at Kansas] when they smashed my left front fender in. See? It's all about theirselves -- and it's not always about you," Biffle continued. "He was lucky that he had time to fix it. I got mine smashed in on the last run of the day. I didn't have time to fix mine. I fell back and finished wherever I did."

"A NASCAR official pulled Mr. Logano's annual credential after he confronted the 16 on pit road," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said.

NASCAR is also reviewing audio of Greg Biffles radio transmissions just prior to the lap 50 altercation. Biffle apparently threatened the action against Logano on the radio one lap before it actually took place.

Denny Hamlin took over the #18 car on lap 39 for teammate Kyle Busch, who has been suffering with the flu all weekend. Hamlin collided with Greg Biffle on lap 141 as he fought in a three-way battle for the lead that included Brad Keselowski.

"I was trying, if I hold the line low, (Keselowski) ends up wrecking us anyway," Hamlin said. "Either way it was going to be a bad situation."

Brian Vickers settled for second after making a late race bid and Carl Edwards gained ground on NASCAR Nationwide point leader Kyle Busch with his third place effort. Edwards is now 155 points behind Kyle Busch.

Kevin Harvick finished fourth and Brad Keselowski fifth.
