Brad Keselowski beat, banged and wrecked his way to his fourth NASCAR Nationwide Series win this year in the Kroger on Track for the Cure 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park.
In addition to the regular race purse, this race was the final of four events in Nationwide Insurance’s Dash 4 Cash challenge. Keselowski beat Kyle Busch not only in today’s race but also in Nationwide’s challenge giving him a $75,000 bonus today. As the two drivers came to the checkered flag, Busch gave it his all and got Keselowski sideways but was unable to make the pass before the stripe.
“(I was) just trying hard, trying to win a race but (I) should be happy here with a second place finish,” Busch said. “(We) lost a lot of money today… I couldn’t put it to myself to spin him (Keselowski) out.” There were 14 cautions throughout the 254 lap event, some of which Keselowski was involved in. “I know he (Keselowski) was aggressive today and (he) got into a couple people but hey, he’s done everything we’ve asked him all year,” Keselowski’s crew chief Tony Eury Sr. said after the win. “(We) hate to see him go really.” Keselowski will compete full time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series next year for Penske Racing alongside Busch and Carl Edwards, who he also had an altercation with today. “I hope it was just a racing deal. I like Brad (Keselowski), I like him a lot. He probably didn’t go out there thinking ‘hey I’m gonna wreck him’”, Edwards said of their on-track incident. “I’ll talk to Brad about it.” Keselowski recognized the controversial on-track incidents that he was involved in throughout the day while in Victory Lane. “I got in the back of Carl (Edwards) and that’s the one I feel the worst about but I didn’t know he was going to make that move,” Keselowski said. “I may have gotten too far out there a couple times but the fans love it.” Jason Leffler finished behind Keselowski and Busch for 3rd, followed by Mike Bliss and Brendan Gaughan. Edwards managed a 6th place finish, followed by Scott Wimmer and David Reutimann in 7th and 8th, respectively. Stephen Leicht and Landon Cassill rounded out the top-10. Keselowski was certainly not the only rough and tumble driver on the track today which led to some hot tempers throughout the event. After the checkered flag flew, two drivers involved in the final caution, Matt Kenseth and Steven Wallace, had a little chat on pit road that resulted in Wallace being escorted away by NASCAR officials. Looking at the big picture, Edwards’ finish behind Busch cost him in the point standings. He is now 215 points behind Busch. Keselowski is 257 points out of first and 4th place Jason Leffler is a distant 995 points behind the leader. 5th place Justin Allgaier is 1436 points behind Busch and now has some competition from Mike Bliss who is currently 6th 1495 points away from 1st. That 5th place position is the final podium spot at the NASCAR Nationwide Series Awards Banquet that is being combined with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Awards Banquet.
