After months of speculation, IndyCar star Danica Patrick has formally announced that she will try her hand behind the wheel of a NASCAR stock car beginning in February 2010.
Via the GoDaddy.com website, her current sponsor in IndyCar and new sponsor for NASCAR, Patrick declared her long awaited decision.
The live webcast began with alternating shots of a GoDaddy.com screen with “Danica’s NASCAR Decision” on it to views of Patrick’s IndyCar and a black, GoDaddy.com sheet over an obvious stock car shaped vehicle. But, before the formal announcement, GoDaddy.com began running a banner at the top of their site which said “GoDaddy.com is proud to announce its primary sponsorship of Danica Patrick in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2010”. As Kelley Earnhardt, Danica Patrick and Bob Parsons, of GoDaddy.com, took the stage more details of the announcement were revealed. Patrick will pilot the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet for JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Nationwide Series on a limited 2010 schedule with Tony Eury Jr. atop the pit box. As Parsons mentioned, “NASCAR’s worst kept secret” was finally out. “Congratulations and welcome to JR Motorsports, Danica,” Earnhardt said. Patrick did however mention that IndyCar is her primary focus so the details of her 2010 Nationwide schedule will depend on her IndyCar obligations. So, the most popular driver in IndyCar is headed to the stables of the most popular driver in NASCAR to try her hand at stock car racing. MORE NASCAR NEWS
