After losing to Kyle Busch in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Nashville 200 last night, Kevin Harvick got the guitar in the Nationwide Series Nashville 300 today.
On the final pit stop under caution Harvick and his crew chief Ernie Cope made the decision to take two tires on the No. 33 Armour Chevrolet and hope that track position would get them the win; it did. “To come on your off weekend and be able to win the guitar at Nashville is pretty cool,” Harvick said in Victory Lane.
Reed Sorenson gave Harvick a run for his money, literally, as the laps wound down. Had Sorenson taken the checkered flag, his sponsor Dollar General was prepared to give $50,000 to Autism Awareness. Sorenson’s crew chief Trent Owens’ 2-year old son was diagnosed with Autism last year. “I thought I could get him even when there was like 10 laps to go,” Sorenson said after the race. “I could taste it. That was good.” The win also earned Harvick a nice bonus check since it was the first of the four Dash 4 Cash events this year. The race itself was quite interesting. The concrete surface poses as a challenge for many drivers and some aggressive racing also played a large part in the outcome. Steve Wallace and four other drivers caused a red flag period after they attempted to go four-wide and ended up tangled together. Wallace limped away from the scene, favoring his right leg, but luckily was released from the infield care center without any major injuries. Jason Leffler was parked for the remainder of the race after putting James Buescher into the wall. The two tangled earlier in the event causing heavy damage on Leffler’s Great Clips Toyota and the move was obvious retaliation that earned him the same in-race penalty that Carl Edwards was given following his incident with Brad Keselowski at Atlanta. In the end, Kyle Busch finished 3rd to Harvick and Sorenson while Justin Allgaier and Keselowski rounded out the top-5. Carl Edwards, Scott Wimmer, Joey Logano, Michael Annett and Brendan Gaughn completed the top-10. The Nationwide Series is now headed to Phoenix for the Bashas' Supermarket 200 which will air on ESPN2 beginning at 9pm ET Friday, April 9th. MORE NASCAR NEWS
