Michael Waltrip Racing has named Patrick Carpentier to drive the No. 99 Toyota in the August 29 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
"Every race car driver wants to do well, but when you race in front of all your friends and family in your hometown it becomes something extra special," said Carpentier. "We've been so close in Montreal and last year I thought we were going to have a shot at the win. NAPA and Michael Waltrip Racing gave me a great car last year and I expect to contend for the victory again this year. Winning in Montreal would definitely be a highlight in my career."
The 38 year-old Canadian has established a solid record in the annual road course event. He won the pole in 2007 and collected back-to-back runnerup finishes in 2007 and 2008. Carpentier had a fast car last year but suffered mechanical problems resulting in a 38th-place finish. Carpentier's resume includes 13 NASCAR Nationwide starts, 33 Sprint Cup starts as well as five CART victories. MORE NASCAR NEWS
