Kyle Busch in the No. 18 Z-Line Designs machine was the fastest in the first of two NASCAR Nationwide Series practice sessions at Chicagoland Speedway today prior to tonight's Dollar General 300. Busch's fast lap of 30.494 seconds at 177.084mph bested that of Kevin Harvick by just over one-tenth of a second.
Carl Edwards was third fastest in that session followed by rookie driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Ryan Newman. In the second and final practice session for NASCAR's second-tier division, rookie Colin Braun topped the charts with a 30.465-second lap at 177.253mph. Newman was the only driver who managed to stay in the top-5 after the first practice by being second quick to Braun. Trevor Bayne, Reed Sorenson and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top-5 in that final practice session. Busch dropped down to 13th fast in that session after topping the first. The Nationwide Series drivers will qualify at 4:00pm ET today, which will be broadcast on SPEED, for tonight's Dollar General 300 event which is scheduled to broadcast on ESPN beginning at 7:30pm ET.
