Jason Bowles captured the win in Saturday night's All-Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, California. The 2009 NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion led 13 laps of the 225-lap event including the final eight before parking the Gaunt Brothers Racing No. 75 Rusty Wallace Racing Experience sponsored Toyota in Victory Lane.
“This is the biggest win of my career for sure," said Bowles. "Race wins are huge for me trying to put my name on the map." Bowles has relocated from his native Ontario, California to North Carolina in pursuit of a full-time career in NASCAR.
One of the most prestigious short-track races in the country, the 2011 All-Star Showdown featured six lead changes among five drivers and saw 11 cautions. The red flag was thrown twice while track safety crews cleared debris from the track surface after several multi-car accidents. 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion and part-time Nationwide Series driver D.J. Kennington finished second, followed by Jonathon Gomez, Luis Martinez Jr. and Johnny Borneman. Travis Pastrana enjoyed a successful NASCAR debut with his team co-owner Michael Waltrip on hand. Pastrana started sixth and finished 20th in the Boost Mobile No. 99 MWR prepared Toyota. “I learned a lot," Pastrana said. "It was a lot of fun. It felt like a win.” Waltrip served as Grand Marshal Saturday night and gave the command for drivers to start their engines before a sold-out crowd of hardcore race fans. MORE NASCAR NEWS
